THE AKEBA AFRICAN & CARIBBEAN

CULTURAL FUN DAY 2010

 

Date: Sat 24th July 2010

Venue: Lewsey Park, Pastures Way, Luton LU4 0PF

Time: 12 midday – 7 pm

Entry: Free

 

This annual festival is a day of tropical fun in the sun where visitors can watch, smile, participate & discover African & Caribbean arts, culture and heritage from a selection of 76 different countries.  The wide range of activities is aimed at all age groups and communities.  Delicious African & Caribbean food and refreshments will be available to buy all day. Visitors may also bring a summer picnic.

This event is also part of the UK wide celebration of London 2010 and is focused on encouraging people to try something new and pursue their interest in African & Caribbean culture a little further. The 2 year countdown to the Olympic & Paralympic Games starts here for the year with challenges for everyone.

CHALLENGES:- Join the biggest Luton Community Conga Line or the hilarious Community Limbo Contest to see how low you can go! For the less energetic there are Adult & Child Dominoes, Oware and Draughts Challenges. There is also a Language Challenge in which there is a prize for those who are able to learn how to say hello in multiple cultural languages on the day.

 

Our special guest for the day will be Mayor, Cllr Shaw and Mayoress, Mrs Shaw of Luton.
